Putin: Our proposals on settlement in Ukraine on the table; we're expecting positive reaction
MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Russia's proposals for the settlement of the situation in Ukraine are on the table with the authorities in Kyiv, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with women from the flight personnel of Russian airlines.
"Our proposals are on the table with the group of negotiators from Kyiv. Hopefully, they will respond positively to that," Putin said.
One of Russia's key demands is the demilitarization of Ukraine, he said.
"One of our key demands is demilitarization, in other words, we're helping citizens, residents of Donbas, while seeking Ukraine's neutral status, seeking the country's demilitarization," Putin said.
"Because we need to understand precisely and clearly what weapons, where they are and what party controls it. Different variants are possible in this case, we're now discussing it, including with the representatives of the government in Kyiv during the negotiating process in Belarus," he said.
He thanked Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for "organizing this work and helping us to conduct these talks."
