Uzbekistan brings home another 860 citizens from Ukraine - Foreign Ministry

TASHKENT. March 5 (Interfax) - Special flights operated by Uzbekistan Airways have repatriated 860 Uzbek citizens from Ukraine via Poland, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"Three flights were performed on March 4, and another 860 fellow citizens returned from Ukraine via Poland," the ministry said.

Uzbekistan began repatriation flights from Ukraine on February 28. It was reported on Friday that 2,579 citizens of Uzbekistan had been evacuated then.

According to reports from Lviv, about 400 Uzbek citizens are waiting at the Ukrainian border checkpoint Krakovets for a possibility to cross into the Polish border checkpoint Karchowa.

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry spokesman said earlier that the Polish authorities had allowed foreigners to evacuate from Ukraine through the Polish territory until March 15 and the visa system would be reinstated on the border from that day forward.
