Saakashvili asks Georgian court to temporarily release him to Ukraine

TBILISI. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Jailed former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili asked Georgian authorities at a Tbilisi city court session on Thursday to allow him to travel by medical transfer to Kyiv due to his poor health.

He also asked for a delay in his sentencing. Saakashvili promised that if his request were met by the Georgian authorities he would return to Georgia and also called on his supporters to stop all protests.

"I am a citizen of Ukraine, the current chairman of the Ukrainian National Council of Reforms [...]. As soon as my health condition and the situation in general stabilize a bit, I give my word, and I never break my word, [...] I will come to Tbilisi at the first call," Saakashvili said.

He also promised not to interfere in Georgian politics from abroad if he is temporarily released to Ukraine.
