Russia registers 17,946 new Covid-19 cases, 745 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 17,946 new cases of Covid-19 and 745 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 17,946 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,655 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (14.8%)," the headquarters said.

There were 4,008 new cases of Covid-19 in Moscow, 1,659 in St. Petersburg, and 1,238 in the Moscow region, the headquarters said.

In the past 24 hours, 745 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly in Moscow (66), St. Petersburg (55), and the Moscow region (43).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,702,150 cases of Covid-19, including 318,432 deaths and 9,758,364 recoveries, including 26,346 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 2,826 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 244.3 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 448,000 over the past day. As many as 849,565 people remain under medical observation.
