Over 2,000 CSTO peacekeepers, 250 pieces of hardware deployed in Kazakhstan - Tokayev

MOSCOW. Jan 10 (Interfax) - Over 2,000 troops and 250 pieces of military hardware of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) are on a peacekeeping mission in Kazakhstan, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"As of this day, a CSTO peacekeeping force comprising 2,030 troops and 250 pieces of hardware has been deployed and has begun its mission in the Republic of Kazakhstan consistent with the decision of the Collective Security Council," Tokayev said at a virtual CSTO summit on Monday.

The CSTO peacekeeping forces "are protecting and ensuring the security of airports, military depots and other strategic sites," he said.
