Russia registers 21,119 new cases of Covid-19, 932 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 29 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 21,119 new cases of Covid-19 and 932 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 21,119 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,660 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.8%)," the headquarters said.

Coronavirus morbidity levels have stabilized in Russia by the New Year holidays, as Russian chief public health official Anna Popova said on Tuesday. The morbidity curve has been declining day after day, yet the authorities warn about the need for compliance with restrictions and protective measures effective against the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus, as well.

According to the headquarters, there were 1,798 new cases of Covid-19 in Moscow, as against 1,526 in St. Petersburg and 1,342 in the Moscow region in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 932 patients have died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (70). St. Petersburg (59), and the Moscow region (49).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,458,271 cases of Covid-19, including 307,022 deaths and 9,380,223 recoveries, including 42,776 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 2,653 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 239.5 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 541,000 over the past day. As many as 1,332,078 people remain under medical observation.
