Rosatom begins construction on No. 6 power unit at Kudankulam NPP in India

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Rosatom state atomic energy corporation has begun construction on the No. 6 power unit at the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in India, according to JSC ASE, Rosatom's engineering division, with the first concrete poured on December 20.

"The first two power units of the station are operating steadily at the nominal capacity level. The second-stage power units are under construction, with work underway on the No. 3 power unit to prepare for the installation of the reactor vessel. In June this year, the first concrete was poured at the No. 5 power unit; and on December 20, the first concrete was poured at the No. 6 power unit. The third stage of the Kudankulam NPP, which has entered the main construction phase, will provide additional energy capacity for further industrial and commercial development of enterprises in the Tamil Nadu Region and the Republic of India overall; and it will also provide additional confidence in the prospects for expanding cooperation between our friendly countries in the field of peaceful modern projects of Russian-designed high-capacity nuclear power units," Andrei Lebedev, vice president for projects in India and ASE Advanced Projects, said in the message.
