Russia registers 25,907 new cases of Covid-19, 1,027 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 25,907 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,027 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 25,907 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,877 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.2%)," the headquarters said.

The number of new infections recorded over the past day corresponds to the level of early October, when Russia was on the brink of a new surge in Covid-19 cases after a decline observed in August and September. Currently, Russia sees a continuous decline in coronavirus morbidity from the record levels of November: there were 1,115 fewer infections on Tuesday compared to Monday, when 27,022 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in Russia.

According to the headquarters, the largest number of new infections, 2,075, were reported from St. Petersburg, followed by 1,906 infections in Moscow, which is the lowest number seen by the city since September 15, and 1,811 infections in the Moscow region.

In the past 24 hours, 1,027 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (80), St. Petersburg (66), and the Moscow region (50).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,267,719 cases of Covid-19, including 299,249 deaths and 9,055,199 recoveries, including 40,219 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,155 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 235.9 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 295,000 over the past day. As many as 1,514,421 people remain under medical observation.
