Russia registers 28,486 new cases of Covid-19, 1,133 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 28,486 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,133 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 28,486 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,089 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.3%)," the headquarters said.

There were 3,322 new infections in Moscow, 1,992 in St. Petersburg and 1,262 in the Moscow region.

Over the past day, 1,133 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly, in Moscow (85), St. Petersburg (61) and the Moscow region (57).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 10,131,646 cases of Covid-19, including 294,024 deaths and 8,876,788 recoveries, including 37,155 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,040 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 233.3 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 535,000 over the past day. As many as 1,596,083 people remain under medical observation.
