Moscow hopes Russian president, new German chancellor build constructive relations - Peskov

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Russia hopes to see continuity in the policy of new German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, including in respect to the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"Obviously, we hope for continuity, and we also hope that the president and the new chancellor will build constructive relations. Hopefully, the German side will continue to believe that there is no alternative to dialogue in settling even the most serious of differences, as has been the case up to now," Peskov said at a press briefing.

Journalists asked Peskov about Russia's expectations from the election of the new German chancellor and whether the Kremlin hopes for continuity of the course of former German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, in particular, in regard to Nord Stream 2, in Scholz's policy.
