Russia registers 30,752 new cases of Covid-19, lowest number since Oct 14, 1,179 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 30,752 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,179 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 30,752 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,292 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.5%)," the headquarters said.

The daily coronavirus morbidity has been gradually decreasing in Russia, and the number of infections registered on Wednesday correlates to the levels of October 14, when a new surge in infections began. The morbidity curve is declining nowadays although Russian chief public health official Anna Popova said that the decline has slowed down a bit and warned regions against lifting restrictions or else the epidemiological situation may worsen again.

According to the headquarters, Moscow recorded 3,004 new cases of Covid-19, or 17% more than on December 7 (2,573). There were 2,209 new cases in St. Petersburg and 1,854 in the Moscow region, where infections were on decline.

Over the past day, 1,179 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, mostly in Moscow (90), the Moscow region (54), and St. Petersburg (49).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 9,895,597 cases of Covid-19, including 284.823 deaths and 8,602,067 recoveries, including 36,976 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,007 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 229.2 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 446,000 over the past day. As many as 1,664,134 people remain under medical observation.
