Six parties win Kyrgyz parliament seats following recount of votes - CEC

BISHKEK. Dec 7 (Interfax) - Six parties have passed the 5% threshold and have won seats in the Kyrgyz parliament following a manual recount of all the votes, the Kyrgyz Central Elections Commission (CEC) said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The pro-government Ata Zhurt party ranks first with 17.3% of the vote. It is followed by the pro-government Ishenim party at 13.62%, the pro-government Yntymak party at 10.99%, and the opposition party Alliance at 8.33%.

Another opposition party, Butun Kyrgyzstan, has garnered 7.03% of the vote, and Yiman Nuru ranks sixth with 6.15%.

Voter turnout stood at 34.94%.

According to the elections law, the Kyrgyz Central Elections Commission must publish the official voting results within 20 days of the vote, i.e., by December 18.

Parliamentary elections took place in Kyrgyzstan on November 28 using a mixed system: 54 deputies were elected using a proportionate system (party tickets) in the national electoral district, and 36 deputies were elected in single-member constituencies. There were 1,311 registered candidates, including 1,015 on party tickets and 296 in single-member constituencies.

Victorious political parties needed to pass a threshold of 5%, while candidates running in single-member constituencies needed a majority of votes. The Kyrgyz election law does not set a particular level of voter turnout needed for the elections to be valid, and elections are declared valid irrespective of how many voters go to the polls.
