Russia registers 33,389 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,221 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 33,389 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,221 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 33,389 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,442 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.3%)," the headquarters said.

The daily morbidity has grown in Russia, compared to 32,837 new cases reported on Wednesday. The number of infections went up by over 1,000 in Moscow, which registered 3,805 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (as against 2,757 the day before). St. Petersburg has seen an uptick in infections, from 2,419 on Wednesday to 2,623 on Thursday. There were 1,475 new infections in the Moscow region.

Over the past day, 1,221 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, with the most deaths recorded in Moscow (92), St. Petersburg (57), and the Moscow region (51).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 9,703,107 cases of Covid-19, including 277,640 deaths and 8,400,117 recoveries, including 35,185 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 3,634 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 226.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 655,000 over the past day. As many as 1,731,397 people remain under medical observation.
