Russia registers 33,996 new Covid-19 cases, lowest number since Oct 19, and 1,243 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 33,996 new cases of Covid-19, which is the lowest number since October 19, and 1,243 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 33,996 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,024 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.0%)," the headquarters said.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 corresponds roughly to the number of cases recorded on October 19, when 33,740 cases of Covid-19 were reported before the morbidity curve began to rise. According to the headquarters, there were 2,749 new cases of Covid-19 in Moscow, 1,871 in the Moscow region, 1,529 in the Samara region, and 1,060 in St. Petersburg.

Over the past day, 1,243 people have died from Covid-19 across Russia, with 96 dying in Moscow, 76 in St. Petersburg, and 70 in the Krasnodar Territory.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 9,400,835 cases of Covid-19, 266,579 deaths, and 8,089,694 recoveries, including 36,051 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 5,351 of them in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 221.4 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 346,000 over the past day. As many as 1,890,422 people remain under medical observation.
