Russia registers 36,818 new cases of Covid-19, lowest number since Oct 27, 1,240 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 36,818 new cases of Covid-19, which is the lowest number since October 27, as well as 1,240 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 36,818 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,438 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (6.6%)," the headquarters said.

The coronavirus morbidity curve has been on decline in Russia lately, and the number of infections has reduced by 1,602, compared to 38,420 reported on Monday.

This is a confirmation of the statement made by Rospotrebnadzor chief Anna Popova on Monday. She said the morbidity levels in Russia had started to decrease after two months of surges.

The trend is characteristic of Moscow, which reported 2,606 new infections on Tuesday, the lowest number since September 29. St. Petersburg has become the new leader in terms of infections: there were 3,131 new cases of Covid-19 registered in St. Petersburg over the past day. The Moscow region reported 2,043 infections.

In the past 24 hours, 1,240 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, most of them in Moscow (97), St. Petersburg (78), and the Moscow region (54).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 9,145,912 cases of Covid-19, including 257,837 deaths and 7,846,448 recoveries, including 34,161 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 7,387 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 217.8 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 370,000 over the past day. As many as 1,939,126 people remain under medical observation.
