Russia sees all-time daily high of 37,141 Covid-19 cases, record high of 1,064 deaths in past day - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Russia has recorded another all-time high number of daily cases of Covid-19, 37,141, over the past 24 hours, along with 1,064 coronavirus-related fatalities, the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 37,141 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,397 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (9.1%)," the headquarters said.

The past 24 hours have seen a surge in Covid-19 morbidity rates in Russia, with 802 more cases reported than the 36,339 cases recorded on Thursday.

Daily cases are increasing in all regions of Russia, with the highest numbers recorded in Moscow, 8,166, which is the highest daily number since late June of this year.

St. Petersburg has reported 3,233 new cases of Covid-19 and the Moscow region 2,428.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths from Covid-19 has reached 1,064, or the largest daily number since the start of the pandemic. Russia has been reporting new all-time highs for Covid-19 mortality rates almost every day since the beginning of October. There were 1,036 coronavirus-related fatalities on Thursday.

The most deaths were reported in Moscow (79), St. Petersburg (67), and the Krasnodar Territory (40).

Since the onset of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 8,168,305 cases of Covid-19, 228,453 deaths, and 7,117,060 recoveries, including 25,453 patients discharged from hospitals over the past day, among them 4,162 in Moscow.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 203.4 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 680,000 over the past day. As many as 1,786,528 people remain under medical observation.
