Russia sees 34,073 new Covid-19 cases, record 1,028 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ
MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - A total of 34,073 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,028 related deaths, a new all-time high in the pandemic, have been recorded in Russia in the past 24 hours, according to data from the coronavirus response headquarters published on Wednesday.
"A total of 34,073 new Covid-19 cases, including 3,067 (9%) diagnosed proactively without clinical manifestations, have been confirmed in Russia in 85 regions over the past 24 hours," the headquarters said.
Russia has seen a new all-time high number of deaths from coronavirus, 1,028, over the past 24 hours, as compared to the 1,015 deaths recorded the day before. The most patients, 76, have died in Moscow, followed by 62 in St. Petersburg and 40 in the Nizhny Novgorod region.
At the same time, Russia has seen a relative reduction in the number of new coronavirus infection cases recorded daily for two days in a row following the all-time high of 34,325 cases recorded on Monday, although the figures are higher than those recorded on Tuesday (33,740).
A total of 5,847 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Moscow over the past 24 hours, as compared to 3,274 in St. Petersburg and 2,590 in the Moscow region, which is a decline from Tuesday, when 2,955 cases were recorded there.
A total of 8,094,825 cases of Covid-19, 226,353 deaths, and 7,065,712 recoveries have been recorded in Russia since the start of the pandemic, including 25,231 recoveries in the past 24 hours, 4,157 of them in Moscow.
According to Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor, more than 202.1 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Russia, including 512,000 tests performed in the past 24 hours. A total of 1,738,781 people remain under medical observation in Russia.
