Express tests for Covid-19 to help avoid harsh restrictions in Moscow - HQ
MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Antigen express tests will help postpone or completely avoid coronavirus-related restrictions in Moscow, the city coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement.
"The possibility of taking an express test is a soft but effective way of breaking the transmission chain. It will be possible to postpone or even completely avoid harsh restrictions, which will deprive city residents of the customary lifestyle and do harm to the city economy, on condition of early detection of Covid-19," the statement said.
An antigen express test is a diagnostic method that detects Covid-19 with a high degree of probability within 15 minutes. The test does not diagnose the disease but indicates its probability.
A pilot project of express Covid-19 testing kicked off in Moscow in July, and over 300 express tests have been done since then.
Coronavirus morbidity started growing in Moscow again in the second half of September.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on October 4 that he could not help but be concerned about the Covid-19 situation: morbidity levels grew approximately 30% while the number of hospitalizations was up over 20%.
