Russia sees morbidity spike to 27,550 new cases of Covid-19, 924 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 27,550 new cases of Covid-19, the largest number since the beginning of this year, and 924 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Thursday.

"Over the past day, 27,550 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,519 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (9.1%)," the headquarters said.

There was a spike in coronavirus morbidity in Russia on Thursday. The number of infections grew by 2,417 from 25,133 cases reported on Wednesday. The morbidity levels started growing after September 20, and reached the largest number since the beginning of this year on Thursday.

Moscow reported 5,404 new cases of Covid-19, the largest number since July 11. The morbidity levels grew almost 50% since Wednesday when 3,589 new infections were registered.

St. Petersburg reported 2,418 new cases (2,187 the day before), while 1,454 cases were reported from the Moscow region (1,410 on October 6).

Over the past day, 924 patients died from Covid-19. Russia hit a new all-time high of 929 deaths from Covid-19 on Wednesday. Most deaths were reported from Moscow (69), St. Petersburg (60) and the Sverdlovsk region (45).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 7,690,110 cases of Covid-19, including 213,549 deaths and 6,799,230 recoveries, including 20,330 persons discharged from hospital over the past day, 2,347 of them in Moscow.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Thursday that Russia has performed more than 195 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 550,000 over the past day. As many as 1,382,943 people remain under medical observation.
