Russia registers 17,813 new cases of Covid-19, 795 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 17,813 new cases of Covid-19, which is the lowest number since the end of June, as well as 795 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Over the past day, 17,813 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,366 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (7.7%)," the headquarters said.

The daily coronavirus morbidity is down to the indicators of the last ten days of June, when a new spike in infections caused by the Delta variant began. Following the July peaks, the morbidity curve is now declining.

Over the past day, 795 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia, as against 792 on Monday. Most deaths are still registered in Moscow (44), which is the smallest number since the beginning of March. Following Moscow are the Krasnodar Territory (33) and the Sverdlovsk region (32). The latter also ranks third by the number of new infections, 516 cases reported over the past day.

According to the headquarters, Moscow saw 1,162 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,914 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

There were 758 new cases in the Moscow region, as well as 513 in St. Petersburg.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia, it has registered a total of 6,918,965 cases of Covid-19, including 183,224 deaths and 6,181,054 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Tuesday that Russia has performed more than 178.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 265,000 over the past day. As many as 1,237,319 people remain under medical observation.
