Rosatom could ask for National Wealth Fund money for lithium projects

KUBINKA, Moscow region. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Rosatom is thinking of requesting National Wealth Fund money for lithium projects, Alexei Likhachev, the state nuclear corporation's chief, said at the Army 2021 forum in Kubinka outside Moscow.

"We are very actively involved in rare and rare earth metals. In this case we have singled out lithium, because of the impetus it gives to energy storage. Anything to do with big commercial and household energy storage is most highly sought-after on the Russian and global markets. In this case lithium ion is the most promising area. We intend to complete the chain, from lithium mining to the procurement and sale of products. We are thinking of asking for NWF money for this and we are working with the Finance Ministry," Likhachev said.

"Russia has a real chance of ranking among the world's top five lithium producers," he said.
