Gazprom essentially declines to book additional firm transit capacities through Ukraine for Sept

MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Gazprom has booked a mere fraction of additional firm transit capacities through Ukraine for September offered at auction by the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU), according to the results of the monthly Regional Booking Platform auction on Monday.

A total of 15 million cubic meters per day was offered at the auction.

The Russian gas giant purchased just 0.65 mcm per day at the GTSOU entry point at the Sudzha gas metering station (GMS). Most of the booked volume will go to Hungary - 0.501 mcm per day to the Berehove GMS, as in previous months.

In previous months, the Uzhgorod corridor, running from the Uzhgorod GMS to Velke Kapusany, accounted for the bulk of additional reservations at over 14 mcm per day. These capacities have now gone completely unpurchased.

Gazprom has a long-term reservation of Ukrainian capacities in the volume of 40 billion cubic meters for 2021, which is equal to 109 mcm per day.

In previous months, Gazprom has regularly booked additional firm transit capacities through Ukraine but has not once purchased additional interruptible capacities offered by the GTSOU.

As of the start of August, Gazprom dramatically reduced gas transportation via the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which it has booked until the end of September.
