Uzbekistan to start manufacturing Russia's Sputnik V vaccine next week - RDIF

MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan will start manufacturing Russia's Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine next week, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) said on Thursday.

"Production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Uzbekistan will begin next week," the RDIF said on Twitter , citing Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The Hordiq web portal cited by the RDIF's press service says that the Russian coronavirus vaccine will be manufactured at a laboratory in the city of Almalyk, and the planned output at "the initial stage" is 2 million doses, Mirziyoyev said.

Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said while visiting Tashkent at the end of May that the parties were finalizing negotiations on launching the production of the Sputnik V vaccine in Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan granted emergency use authorization to Sputnik V in February 2021. At present, this vaccine has been authorized in 69 countries with a total population of over 3.7 billion people.
