Russia reports 22,420 new Covid-19 cases, lowest daily number since beginning of July, 798 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 22,420 new cases of Covid-19 and 798 related deaths over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 22,420 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,863 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (8.3%)," the headquarters said.

Today's figure is the first time since the beginning of July that the daily number of new Covid-19 cases is below 23,000, continuing a tendency toward a decline in morbidity rates, but the daily number of coronavirus-related fatalities is still high, standing at 798 in the past 24 hours. The most coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours were reported in Moscow (193), St. Petersburg (68), and the Irkutsk region (31). As many as 20,576 people earlier diagnosed with Covid-19 have recovered.

Moscow reported 2,445 new Covid-19 cases and 5,131 recoveries on Wednesday, the headquarters said.

St. Petersburg has reported 1,918 new infections and the Moscow region 1,449 in the past 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 6,195,232 cases of Covid-19, including 156,178 deaths and 5,547,529 recoveries.

Russian consumer health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 163.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 408,000 over the past day. As many as 1,228,980 people remain under medical observation.
