No plans of federal lockdown - Peskov

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - A federal lockdown is not being discussed amid the deteriorating coronavirus situation in Russia, and the Kremlin has no information whether the lockdown option is being considered by any regional leader, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"No," Peskov said in response to journalists' question whether a federal lockdown was on the table.

As to whether the Kremlin believes it would be necessary to take stricter measures, up to a lockdown, because of the coronavirus situation, Peskov said, "It absolutely does not matter what we think; what matters are the decisions made by regions within their limit of authority."

"It's regions that choose the measures to be taken under the current circumstances. We have no information whether any of them is considering a full lockdown," Peskov said.
