Russia registers 17,594 new cases of Covid-19, highest number of deaths since Feb - HQ

MOSCOW. June 23 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 17,594 new cases of Covid-19, as well as 548 deaths, which is the highest number since February, over the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 17,594 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,770 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (15.8%)," the headquarters said.

For the past two days, the number of deaths from Covid-19 has been the highest since February: there were 548 deaths on Wednesday, as against 546 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, 12, 660 patients have recovered.

Moscow reported 6,534 new cases of Covid-19, as well as the all-time high of 88 deaths, and 3,670 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Following Moscow, coronavirus morbidity levels have been the highest in the Moscow region (1,323) and St. Petersburg (1,092), which also reported the highest death toll, 93.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 5,368,513 cases of Covid-19, including 130,895 deaths and 4,902,110 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 146.4 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 436,000 over the past day. As many as 656,419 people remain under medical observation.
