Russia registers 17,262 new cases of Covid-19, largest number since Feb 1 - HQ

MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 17,262 new cases of Covid-19, the largest number since the beginning of February, and 453 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 17,262 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,464 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (14.3%)," the headquarters said.

Russia saw similar daily coronavirus morbidity on February 1, when 17,648 new cases of Covid-19 were reported, after which the morbidity curve went on decline and a growth resumed on June 8. The number of infections grew by 3,205 over the past day, and the death toll also went up. In the past 24 hours, 10,954 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 453 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia.

Moscow reported an all-time high of new Covid-19 cases - 9,056, in addition to 78 deaths and 3,784 recoveries.

Other regions with the highest daily coronavirus morbidity levels are the Moscow region (1,254 new infections) and St. Petersburg (970).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 5,281,309 cases of Covid-19, including 128,445 deaths and 4,850,659 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 144.4 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 444,000 over the past day. As many as 584,574 people remain under medical observation.
