Number of new Covid-19 cases tops 9,400 in Russia for first time since March - HQ

MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 9,462 new cases of Covid-19 and 393 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 9,462 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 84 regions of Russia, including 1,604 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (17.0%)," the headquarters said.

The daily coronavirus morbidity topped 9,000 for the first time since March and for the second time since May 1, as against no more than 7,000-8,000 daily cases reported earlier. Russia also saw more than 9,000 coronavirus infections on April 1, 3, 9, 16, 17 and 29.

In the past 24 hours, 9,756 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 393 patients died from Covid-19 across Russia.

For the first time since the end of January, Moscow reported 3,818 new cases of Covid-19, which was the highest number of daily infections in Russia in the past 24 hours, in addition to 60 deaths and 2,943 recoveries.

The least growth was reported by the Chukotka Autonomous District (two cases) and the Jewish Autonomous District (one). Not a single case was registered in the Nenets Autonomous District over the past day.

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 4,922,901 cases of Covid-19, including 115,116 deaths and 4,537,634 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia had performed more than 132.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 369,000 over the past day. As many as 499,142 people remain under medical observation.
