Kremlin has no position yet on MinFin proposals for concessions on FX transactions by sanctioned Russians

MOSCOW. April 9 (Interfax) - The Kremlin does not have its own position regarding a Finance Ministry proposal on concessions for forex operations by Russians hit by foreign sanctions.

"You'd have to ask the Finance Ministry. We have no position here at the administration," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, when asked whether the state ought to protect Russians as suggested by the Finance Ministry and what consequences such a decision might have for Russian banks.

Asked whether in general the state ought to protect Russians hit by sanctions, Peskov said: "In general we consider these sanctions to be absolutely illegal. If we're talking in general about protecting the interests of Russians, then there should be that protection. It's another matter how. This is of course an issue for experts to work on," he said.

On Monday it emerged that the Finance Ministry was proposing to use a special regime for currency operations by residents subject to restrictions by foreign states, state associations or unions and their state institutions, which do not allow Russian individuals to fulfill in due measure their public legal and contractual obligations when carrying out foreign trade activities.
