Russia registers 8,792 new Covid-19 cases, 400 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. April 2 (Interfax) - Russia has seen 8,792 new cases of Covid-19 and 400 related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 8,792 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,138 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (12.9%)," the headquarters said.

Following an uptick in coronavirus infections, which exceeded 9,000 on Thursday, the numbers decreased to over 8,000 on Friday, as they did at the beginning of this week.

Over the past day, 9,832 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 400 patients died from Covid-19 in Russia.

Moscow reported 1,764 new cases of Covid-19, 57 deaths, and 1,324 recoveries in the past 24 hours, the headquarters said.

The number of daily infections remains the biggest in Moscow, while the smallest number of infections is observed in the Jewish Autonomous District (three), the Magadan region and the Nenets Autonomous District (two in each), as well as in Tuva and the Chukotka Autonomous District (one in each).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 4,563,056 cases of Covid-19, including 99,633 deaths and 4,186,251 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Friday that Russia had performed more than 120.9 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 359,000 over the past day. As many as 490,311 people remain under medical observation.
