Russia registers 8,861 new Covid-19 cases, 401 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. March 24 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 8,861 new Covid-19 cases and 401 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 8,861 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,078 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (12.2%)," the headquarters said.

The number of new Covid-19 cases has been exceeding 8,000 for two consecutive days, compared to over 9,000 daily infections reported throughout last week. The numbers reported on Tuesday and Wednesday correlate to those of late September, when the coronavirus morbidity curve was rising in Russia. The epidemic is currently on decline.

Russia confirmed 401 coronavirus-related deaths over the past day, and 10,355 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery.

According to the operative headquarters, Moscow reported 1,431 new Covid-19 cases, the highest number across Russia in the past 24 hours, in addition to 53 deaths and 1,593 recoveries.

The least number of cases have been reported by the Nenets Autonomous District, Tuva, and the Chukotka Autonomous District (one in each).

Since the beginning of the coronavirus epidemic in Russia on March 2, 2020, it has registered a total of 4,483,471 cases of Covid-19 (+0.20%), including 96,219 deaths and 4,098,400 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia had performed more than 118.1 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 265,000 over the past day. As many as 484,760 people remain under medical observation.
