Twitter removing content prohibited in Russia, but not fast enough - Roskomnadzor

MOSCOW. March 23 (Interfax) - The Twitter microblogging and social networking service has begun removing prohibited content following the slowing of its speed in Russia, but the process has not been fast enough, and the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology, and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) will insist on the complete removal of such information, Roskomnadzor said in a statement.

"Roskomnadzor notes that as a result of the measures taken on March 10, 2021 to slow down Twitter's traffic, the social network has begun the removal process, but has actually removed only a third of the content prohibited in Russia and associated with child pornography, materials inciting minors to commit suicide, and advertising the procurement, production, and use of narcotics," Roskomnadzor said.

"The pace of the removal of prohibited information by the social network has been unsatisfactory," it said.

"Two-thirds of materials harmful to children remain available on Twitter. What is more, unfortunately, there are new publications containing child pornography, propaganda of suicide materials, and information about the distribution and use of narcotics, which is completely unacceptable," Roskomnadzor said.

"Roskomnadzor will continue to insist on the complete and swift removal by Twitter of information which is prohibited and dangerous to children," it said.
