Russia registers 11,024 new Covid-19 cases, 462 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. March 5 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 11,024 new cases of Covid-19 and 462 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Friday.

"Over the past day, 11,024 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,322 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (12.0%)," the headquarters said.

Daily growth in coronavirus morbidity in Russia has been ranging from over 10,000 or 11,000 for the second consecutive week. Epidemiologists say this is a normal process, and the situation is stabilizing nationwide.

Meanwhile, the number of deaths remains quite high, although it has significantly decreased since the end of 2020. Over the past day, 462 patients have died of coronavirus, and 15,464 have been discharged from hospitals upon recovery.

According to the headquarters, Moscow recorded 1,757 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, more than any other Russian constituent territory, 54 patients died and 2,249 recovered.

The fewest new Covid-19 cases were reported by Tuva (6), the Jewish Autonomous District (5), and the Chukotka Autonomous District (2).

Since March 2, 2020, when the coronavirus epidemic began in Russia, the country has registered a total of 4,301,159 cases of Covid-19 (+0.26% in the past 24 hours), including 88,285 deaths and 3,885,321 recoveries.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Friday that Russia has performed more than 112.5 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 362,000 over the past day. As many as 539,190 people remain under medical observation.
