Russia registers 12,953 new Covid-19 cases, 480 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Feb 20 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 12,953 new cases of Covid-19 and 480 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Saturday.

"Over the past day, 12,953 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 1,325 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (10.2%)," the headquarters said.

Russia has been seeing a decline in daily coronavirus morbidity since the beginning of this year, and the numbers reported on the third week of February correlate to those of mid-October 2020, when, however, the coronavirus morbidity curve was on the rise. The situation is now stabilizing.

Most new infections are still being reported in Moscow, but the number of cases in the city has also been down since the end of last year and correlates to the levels of September 2020.

According to the headquarters, Moscow recorded 1,623 new Covid-19 cases, 58 deaths, and 2,041 recoveries over the past day.

Meanwhile, 17,484 patients have been discharged from hospitals and 480 coronavirus-related deaths have been confirmed in Russia in the past 24 hours.

As of this date, Russia has registered a total of 4,151,984 cases of Covid-19 (+0.3%), including 82,876 deaths and 3,697,433 recoveries.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Saturday that Russia has performed more than 108.7 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 365,000 over the past day. As many as 597,442 people remain under medical observation.
