MTS to invest around 16 bln rubles to upgrade, modernize Moscow Region network in 2021

MOSCOW. Feb 17 (Interfax) - PJSC MTS plans to invest around 16 billion rubles in developing its network in Moscow and the Moscow Region in 2021, the telecoms company's First Vice President for Telecommunications Inessa Galaktionova told reporters.

"We have doubled our budget for investments in Moscow and the Moscow Region. The budget calls for our investing about 16 billion rubles this year," the senior manager said.

Galaktionova said that the company specifically plans to construct an additional 6,500 base stations or 2.5-fold more than in 2020. MTS plans for the most construction to occur in Moscow's Novomoskovsk and Troitsk administrative districts, as well as in Khimki, Mytishchi, Balashikha, and Krasnogorsk.

MTS is also upgrading equipment at existing base stations in the Moscow Region in order to double peak throughput of the MTS LTE network in Moscow and the region.

The operator also intends to construct a wired fiber-optic GPON network in the ten Moscow Region cities of Podolsk, Domodedovo, Korolev, Lytkarino, Zvenigorod, Noginsk, Stupino, Aprelevka, Naro-Fominsk, and Krasnoarmeisk.
