Lavrov expects Iran deal to be preserved, U.S. to return to its implementation

MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Moscow expects that certain efforts being undertaken now will help preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program and the United States will return to fully abiding by it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said following negotiations with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

"We have talked extensively about the situation surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on settling the Iranian nuclear program, and we have the same position. We're interested in its full-fledged preservation and are convinced that the path toward it lies exclusively through the consistent and comprehensive implementation of this crucial document by all parties involved based on UN Security Council Resolution 2231," Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow on Tuesday.

"We hope the efforts being made now will produce a result and help preserve the JCPOA, and the U.S. will return to the full implementation of said Security Council resolution, which, in its turn, will provide the preconditions for the implementation of all requirements of the nuclear deal by the Islamic Republic of Iran," he said.
