Russia registers 21,152 new Covid-19 cases, 597 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 20 (Interfax) - Russia has registered 21,152 new cases of Covid-19 and 597 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 21,152 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 2,452 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (11.6%)," the headquarters said.

St. Petersburg reported the highest number of daily infections in the country for the third time since the beginning of this year on Wednesday: 3,347 coronavirus diagnoses have been confirmed in the city in the past 24 hours, along with the largest number of deaths, 72.

A total of 597 coronavirus patients have died across Russia over the past day.

Moscow registered 2,452 new Covid-19 cases, 65 deaths, and 4,770 recoveries.

Coronavirus morbidity grew the least in the republics of Altai and Tyva.

As of this date, Russia has registered a total of 3,633,952 cases of Covid-19 (+0.59%), including 67,220 deaths and 3,027,316 recoveries, including 25,290 recoveries in the past day.

Russian health watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said on Wednesday that Russia has performed more than 97.6 million Covid-19 tests to date, including 320,000 over the past day. As many as 629,145 people remain under medical observation.
