Russia registers 22,850 new Covid-19 cases, 566 deaths in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. Jan 13 (Interfax) - Russia registered 22,850 new Covid-19 cases and 566 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 22,850 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,082 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (13.5%)," the headquarters said.

For the first time in 2021, the number of recoveries exceeded the number of new cases by almost 6,000 and reached 28,658. A total of 566 deaths from the novel coronavirus were confirmed over the day.

Moscow reported 4,320 new Covid-19 cases, 76 deaths, and 6,870 recoveries in the past 24 hours.

Moscow's runners-up are St. Petersburg with 3,003 new cases and the Moscow region with 1,189.

The lowest number of infections was reported from the Nenets Autonomous District (six) and the Chukchi Autonomous District (three).

As of this date, Russia has registered a total of 3,471,053 cases of Covid-19 (+0.7%), including 63,370 deaths and 2,854,088 recoveries.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia had performed more than 94.6 million Covid-19 diagnostic tests to date, including 341,000 over the past day. As many as 616,174 people remain under medical observation.
