Russian PM signs order to expand Vladivostok port

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed an order to expand the boundaries of the Vladivostok seaport to include additional land parcels and waters, the government press service reported on Saturday.

"There are plans to build a marine terminal to handle coal on the new territory. Its capacity will amount to 20 million tonnes per year. In future, the terminal will help increase the share of Russian coal exports on the markets of the Asia-Pacific region, as well as simplify access to port infrastructure for Russian coal mining companies," the press service said.

The expansion of the port area is part of the program to develop the coal industry that the government approved in 2020, the press service said.

"Its implementation will make it possible to increase coal mining to 485 million tonnes by 2035 in the conservative scenario and to 668 million tonnes in the optimistic scenario. The forecast for exports is from 259 million to 392 million tonnes, respectively," the press service said.
