Putin abolishes Rospechat, Rossvyaz, reassigns their duties to Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media

MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has abolished the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Media (Rospechat) and the Federal Communications Agency (Rossvyaz).

According to the president's executive order published on the Kremlin's website, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media will be performing the duties of the abolished agencies.

"For the purpose of improving state management of digital development, communications and mass media, achieving primary objectives in the digital economy field, reducing administrative barriers, and optimizing duties of the federal executive authorities and the number of federal civil servants, I order that the Federal Agency for Press and Mass Media and the Federal Communications Agency be abolished," the order said.

The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media was named the legal successor to the abolished agencies, including their obligations deriving from court orders.

The Russian government was tasked with completing the abolition procedure in due time and specifying the number of federal civil servants in the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media in the context of the reassigned duties of the abolished agencies.

"To affirm the operation of the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media under the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media," the order said.
