Number of daily coronavirus recoveries surpasses number of daily infections in Russia for first time in fall 2020 - HQ

MOSCOW. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Russia registered 20,985 new Covid-19 cases, the all-time high of 25,179 recoveries, and the all-time high of 456 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said on Wednesday.

"Over the past day, 20,985 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 5,094 asymptomatic cases identified proactively (24.3%)," the headquarters said.

The number of daily infections has been on decline for two consecutive days. Russia registered 22,410 new cases on November 17, and the all-time high of 22,778 on November 16.

For the first time this fall, the number of daily recoveries exceeded the number of daily infections. The number of recoveries has been growing for two days in a row: 22,055 patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery on Tuesday, and 25,179 on Wednesday. The number of deaths has also grown to 456, as against 442 on Tuesday.

Moscow has seen a similar trend: 5,503 patients were discharged over the past day, while 4,174 were diagnosed with Covid-19 and 76 died.

By now, Russia has seen a total of 1,991,998 coronavirus infection cases, including 34,387 deaths and 1,501,083 recoveries.

The number of active coronavirus cases (all cases minus all recoveries and all deaths) currently stands at 456,528.

The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said on Wednesday that Russia had performed over 70 million coronavirus tests as of this date, including 525,000 over the past day. As many as 463,720 people remain under medical observation.
