Russia sees 15,700 new Covid-19 cases, record 317 deaths over past 24 hours - coronavirus response headquarters

MOSCOW. Oct 21 (Interfax) - Russia saw 15,700 new coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours, according to a report released by the coronavirus response headquarters on Wednesday.

The number of confirmed deaths has reached 317, which is the maximum since the start of the pandemic, according to the report.

"Russia saw 15,700 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus infection Covid-19 in 85 regions over the past 24 hours, including 4,076 (25.9%) identified proactively, without any clinical symptoms manifested," the headquarters said.

The number of confirmed deaths has reached 317 for the first time, it is the maximum since the start of the pandemic. The number stood at 269 the day before.

A record daily increase in coronavirus cases, 16,319, was registered in Russia the day before.

A total of 4,389 new coronavirus cases were registered in Moscow over the past 24 hours. This number is lower than the number registered on Tuesday, when 4,999 new cases were registered.

According to the headquarters, 2,365 people were discharged from hospitals in Moscow after recovering in the past 24 hours and 63 people died.

A total of 1,447,335 coronavirus cases (+1.1%) have been registered in Russia's 85 regions.

The total death toll has reached 24,952 people. The total number of people discharged from hospitals has reached 1,096,560 in the entire period, including 10,952 people discharged over the past 24 hours, the headquarters said in its report.

The number of people discharged from hospitals has exceeded 10,000 for the first time.

According to a report released by the Russian consumer rights watchdog on Wednesday, more than 55.1 million coronavirus tests have been performed in Russia, including 496,000 over the past 24 hours. A total of 321,488 people remain under medical observation ibn the country.
