Daily coronavirus numbers hit 8,000 in Russia - HQ

MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - Russia registered 8,135 new coronavirus cases and 61 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the operative headquarters said in a statement on Monday.

"Over the past day, 8,135 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 84 regions of Russia, including 2,200 asymptomatic cases (27%) identified proactively," the headquarters said.

The daily number of Covid-19 cases has been growing in Russia since the beginning of September, when over 5,000 cases were reported. The numbers reached 6,000 by September 19, for the first time since July, and passed 7,000 on September 25.

The growth has been the biggest in Moscow: the city recorded 2,217 new coronavirus cases over the past day.

According to the headquarters, 942 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals upon recovery, and 16 died of coronavirus in Moscow in the past 24 hours.

By now, Russia has seen a total of 1,159,573 coronavirus cases (+0.7%) in 85 regions, including 20,385 deaths. The number of coronavirus-related deaths has been smaller than 100 for two consecutive days.

Meanwhile, 945,920 coronavirus patients have recovered, including 2,702 over the past day, the headquarters said.
