Online retailer Ozon to sell autos in conjunction with Avtomir
MOSCOW. Aug. 6 (Interfax) - Ozon has launched the sale of automobiles via its website in cooperation with the car dealer Avtomir, the online retailer said.
This is the first project on the Russian e-commerce market with sales occurring via marketplace platform rather than from a dealer's own site. Such previous projects, as a rule, existed only to collect information online in applications for further selection of a car, Ozon said.
About 100 models of 14 popular car brand names from Ford to Haval, Hyundai, Geely, Kia, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault, Volkswagen, Citroen, Skoda, and Suzuki, in various trim levels, are available for purchase on the Ozon marketplace. A customer can choose actual autos from the dealer's warehouse at a fixed price.
Ozon acts as the online showroom in the partnership, while Avtomir is fully responsible for fulfilling orders, including transfers of autos to customers.
Sales of new autos will occur in Moscow and the Moscow Region at the launch stage of the project, and the geographical area of sales will increase in the future, while used autos will join new autos for sale at a later date.
"Entering this marketplace gives us the opportunity to expand our customer base, and Ozon in turn obtains a completely new category of goods," Sergey Sitnov, head of marketing at Avtomir Group, said.
Ozon customers purchase not only consumer goods, household goods, and books, but also auto parts and accessories on the site. "It is obvious that among our millions of loyal customers, there are many motorists, actual or potential," Anna Karpova, Ozon business development director, said.
Ozon is one of Russia's largest e-commerce sites with over five million product names in 24 categories from books and clothing to food and health products. Marketplace partners comprise more than 80% of the site's assortment.
