Nord Stream 2 will be built, although with some delay - German ambassador

MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax) - Berlin is optimistic about the future of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, which will be built, although with a delay, German Ambassador to Russia Geza Andreas von Geyr said on Tuesday.

"The ideas and the specific actions demonstrated by the United States do not change the stance of the German authorities on Nord Stream 2 in any way," von Geyr said during a videoconference.

"We bore witness to a positive event several days ago: the Danish authorities allowed the pipeline construction to continue," he said.

On Monday, the Danish Energy Agency announced its decision to allow pipe-laying vessels with an anchor (in addition to vessels with dynamic positioning) to build the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in Denmark's exclusive economic zone.

"Hence, I feel optimistic and believe that Nord Stream 2 will be built, although with a delay," von Geyr said.
