With 100% of ballots counted, amendments to Russian Constitution receive 77.92% of votes

MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax) - Having counted 100% of the ballots cast in the nationwide vote on amendments to the Russian Constitution, the Central Elections Commission (CEC) has announced that 77.92% of Russian citizens supported the amendments, and 21.27% voted against them.

The CEC will sum up the preliminary results of the vote at its information center at noon on Thursday.

According to tentative estimates, voter turnout stood at 64.99%.

Screens at the information center are not yet showing the final results in the regions. However, according to tentative figures, the majority of residents in all regions supported the amendments. The Nenets Autonomous District has become the country's only region where the majority of voters (55.35%) cast their ballots against the amendments, and 43.7% voted for the amendments.

Citizens voting in the Russian general consulate in New York City also said no the amendments. Of 816 voters who came to the polling station there, 310 voted 'in favor' and 505 'against', Alexei Topolsky, spokesperson for the Russian Consulate General in New York City, told Interfax earlier.

The proposed amendments have gained most support in Chechnya, Tuva and Crimea, as more than 90% voted in favor of them in these Russian regions, the izbirkom.ru website said.
