Jobless figures grew again somewhat in Russia in May, but employment will recover in H2 - Nabiullina

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Unemployment increased again somewhat in Russia in May, but the number of those in work will recover in H2, Central Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina said during a press conference on Friday.

"Real-time indicators show that based on the results of May unemployment again increased somewhat, but gradual recovery of economic activity should also ensure gradual recovery of employment in the second half of the year," Nabiullina said.

She said that in April unemployment had come to 5.8%. "According to our estimate, this is 5.6% if seasonally adjusted. Unemployment increased by approximately one percentage point compared to March. It corresponds to the level at the beginning of 2016 and is moreover far lower than in a number of major economies," Nabiullina said.
