Covid-19 rate nears 450,000 in Russia; over 8,700 new cases, 144 deaths reported in past 24 hours - HQ

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax) - Russia reported over 8,700 new coronavirus cases and 144 deaths in the past 24 hours, the coronavirus response headquarters said in a statement on Friday.

"Over the past day, 8,726 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in 85 regions of Russia, including 3,235 active asymptomatic cases (37.1%)," the headquarters said.

The cumulative number of coronavirus cases has reached 449,834 in Russia, including 5,528 deaths and 212,680 recoveries (8,057 patients were discharged over the past day). The number of active cases (the total number of cases minus all recoveries and all deaths) currently stands at 231,626. A third of all coronavirus patients have recovered by now.

Meanwhile, Moscow reported 1,855 new Covid-19 cases, 57 deaths, and 2,643 recoveries over the past day, the headquarters said.

The effective reproductive number (Rt) stood at 0.83 in Moscow and 0.98 in Russia on Friday.

By now, Russia has performed over 12 million coronavirus tests, including 320,000 in the past 24 hours, Rospotrebnadzor said. Some 317,000 people remain under medical observation.
