Growth in detection of new Covid-19 cases in Russia drops by over 90% since early April - deputy PM

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - The rate at which the number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in Russia has grown daily since April has declined by more than 90% by present, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said.

"If we compare the rate at which the detection of new [coronavirus] cases grew in Russia daily in early April and now, we can see it was 11.8 times higher then. We've recorded daily cumulative growth at a level of 2.3% over the past several days," Golikova said at a news briefing on Friday.

The daily cumulative growth in the number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Russia can still be seen as quite substantial, bearing in mind the overall number of cases detected nationwide, Golikova said.

At the same time, "the Moscow area has manifested a steady downward trend in the detection of new cases" amid the growing number of tests taken, Golikova said.
