Duma commission calls for penalizing Russians attending foreign seminars of undesirable NGOs

MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - Russia's State Duma commission investigating facts of foreign interference in Russian internal affairs has called for establishing administrative liability for Russians who attend foreign events of undesirable NGOs.

"Foreign mass media outlets and non-governmental organizations whose activity has been deemed undesirable in Russia are not just teaching our citizens how to get the young addicted to drugs, but are also training activists for color revolutions and pogroms in Russia. Those who attend the events of foreign NGOs banned in Russia should bear the same liability they would have faced for conducting similar activity in Russia," commission head Vasily Piskaryov told journalists on Thursday.

A number of foreign NGOs whose activity has been branded undesirable in Russia have moved their events abroad, Piskaryov said. Therefore, the commission has drafted amendments to the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses to hold Russian citizens who attend the events of such organizations abroad liable.
